Photograph by Sean Creech (c) 2001 The Devon War Memorial, Cathedral Green, Exeter was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, and is constructed of granite. The majority of damage to the City of Exeter was during raids by the Germans on 4th May 1942. The Exeter Cathedral itself suffered a direct hit, shattering most of the stained glass windows, and destroying the Chapel of St. James.
